There are five types of creatures in the game, as well as five types of beasts and attacks, which work on the basis of a slightly more complex version of the rock-scissor-paper game. The decisions made during the game can determine the fate of the world and its inhabitants, sometimes even leading to their loss. In contrast to Pokemon, the gameplay is not completely linear. We also interact with the independent characters we meet, from time to time performing various tasks for them. During the game we explore the world (observed from the same perspective as in the Nintendo series), recruit and train more monsters and compete in turn-based battles with other trainers.
Monster Crown is almost a generic example of a game inspired by Pokemon. It is up to the player to decide whether the character he leads will save the world from the return of tyranny, or whether he will be the herald of dark times. Instead of enjoying a carefree journey around Crown Island to become the best trainer in the world, the hero of the game often finds out that with monsters there are no jokes, and people have their dark sides too. Unlike Pokemon and many Nintendo followers, the world of Monster Crown does not avoid serious topics.
